Tumbling Worlds, 2023 - ongoing

Projektet Tumbling Worlds är en materialdriven undersökning inspirerad av Ursula Le Guins essä Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction. Projektet syftar till att skapa reflektioner kring samtida material efterliv, med ett ny-materialistiskt perspektiv, hur flera pågående processer som vi som människor bara är en del av att formar vår existens och förståelse för omvärlden.

Projektet arbetar genom fabuleringar om potentiella framtida biosfärer och landskap genom att skapa platsspecifika spelmiljöer baserade på platsens innehåll. Genom att simulera nedbrytande system av vind, vatten och rörelse med hjälp av en stentumlare blandas platsspecifika saker och material och slits mot varandra. Resultatet av projektet är ett fysiskt och digitalt materialbibliotek som innehåller det tumlade materialet tillsammans med virtuella spelmiljöer. Genom att arbeta med material centrerad spekulation undersöker Tumbling Worlds vårt förhållande till slitage, förlusten av tillskriven funktion, igenkännbar materialitet och förvecklingen mellan efterlivet av konsumentkulturer och miljöprocesser. Hur förhåller vi oss till det okända utifrån vår vardag?

The Tumbling Worlds project is a material-driven investigation inspired by Ursula Le Guin's essay Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction. The project aims to create reflections on contemporary material afterlife, with a new-materialist perspective, how several ongoing processes that we as humans are only part of shaping our existence and understanding of the world around us.

The project works through fabulation about potential future biospheres and landscapes by creating site-specific game environments based on the site's content. By simulating degrading systems of wind, water and movement with the help of a stone tumbler, site-specific things and materials are mixed and worn against each other. The result of the project is a physical and digital material library that contains the tumbled material together with virtual game environments. Working with material-centered speculation, Tumbling Worlds examines our relationship to wear and tear, the loss of ascribed function, recognizable materiality, and the entanglement between the afterlife of consumer cultures and environmental processes. How do we relate to the unknown based on our everyday life?
